ARCADIA, Calif., Oct. 31, 2016 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — IDModeling, Inc. the leading global provider of smart water software and services announced the deployment of Sedaru Smart Ops for real-time alerting, analysis and prediction of water system performance, enabling engineers and operators to reduce water loss, energy spend, and cost of operations. Sedaru is the industry’s leading smart water operating software, serving as the single source of data to the enterprise, unifying static and real-time information systems, and distributing anytime-anywhere analytics to the organization for both asset and operational management so utilities can anticipate operations, understand impacts, and solve problems with unprecedented situational awareness from the office to the field.

For decades, water utility operators have used Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems to monitor and control water production facilities, while engineers have used the calibrated hydraulic model to predict water system performance.  As shown in the table below, the disparity between the insight and capabilities provided by these two systems is striking:  SCADA is a real-time system used for facility (pumps and tanks) monitoring and control, driven by sensors to detect system changes, while the hydraulic model is used predictively for system planning, created with static data, calibrated for one point in time, without real-time data to reflect system changes.  Additionally, the typical end users of these two systems are vastly different: the SCADA system is used directly by water system operators around the clock, 24-hours/day, while the hydraulic model is typically used by the utility’s engineering consultant when the need arises for a master plan or other “what-if” analysis.

Sedaru Smart Ops takes the best, and most secure, of both systems to create a real-time data access, total network monitoring, and system analysis tool for both water system operators and engineers.  Smart Ops provides water system operators confidence in the hydraulic model, and enables the water system engineer with the real-time data needed to support operations with more accuracy.  Smart Ops connects the utility’s SCADA and/or pressure and flow sensor data with the GIS and hydraulic model, into a single, enjoyable-to-use interface, delivering the SCADA schematics, trending, and alerting  used by water operators, with dynamic mapping, trending, and network analytics for engineers to visualize and quantify network impacts in real-time.

Sedaru Smart Ops is being deployed to water utilities across the United States, including the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA), which delivers 45 MGD across 37 service areas (pressure zones), to a population of approximately 430,000 in over a dozen Connecticut cities and towns. Tony Delvecchio, RWA’s Distribution & Operations Director shared “The Sedaru software is intuitive enough for our operators, and powerful enough to help improve our bottom line.”

“Creating a real-time data access and simulation tool was no small feat, with sophistication required in the Smart Ops backend to address strict IT and security requirements, while still delivering an elegant front-end user experience, for the utility end user,” said Sree Sreedhar, IDModeling’s CTO, “We’re proud and extremely excited to deploy this groundbreaking tool, that not only meets IT requirements, but addresses a significant business case for utility operators and engineers to see both facilities and the distribution system with real-time and predictive insights to empower solutions for the historic challenges facing water utilities in the 21st century”.
